Few figures in Hollywood history have left as indelible a mark as John Wayne, the man who would come to define the American Western. But his journey to stardom was not without its obstacles. Born Marion Robert Morrison in Winterset, Iowa, in 1907, Wayne moved with his family to Southern California in the late 1910s, where his fascination with the movies began to take shape.

In 1939, director John Ford cast him in Stagecoach, a film that not only revitalized the Western genre but also launched Wayne into the ranks of Hollywood’s leading men.

As World War II unfolded, Wayne, unable to serve due to age and family obligations, contributed to the war effort in his own way—entertaining troops and starring in patriotic films that bolstered morale.

Following the war, Wayne’s career flourished. He became one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood, headlining a string of successful Westerns and adventure films that solidified his place in cinematic history.
